The Board has set up air quality and noise level monitoring apparatus in 33 places in the State including Bangalore. Air quality monitoring stations will be set up in nine places and noise monitoring stations in five places in the city.
The Board’s staff will calculate levels of sulphur di oxide, oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide and respirable suspended particulate matters in these centres. An official said pollution levels are being monitored during Deepavali for the last few years.. During the festival in 2006 the average noise level in Jayanagar residential area was 56 decibels and in 2008 it went up to 73. Similarly in Vijayanagar club premises (residential area) the average noise level in 2006 was only 70 dB, while two years later it was 81 dB.
The KSPCB staff takes readings throughout the day and compare the same with the those on normal days. For this year the staff will record the pollution levels on October 17, 18 and 19. In addition, they will take readings on October 21.
